India to Notre Dame

Notre Dame offers Indian undergraduate and pre-doctoral students the opportunity to engage in transformative research experiences through its summer programs. The Research Apprenticeship and International Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (iSURE) programs enable students to work alongside renowned faculty and graduate students on cutting-edge research projects in fields such as cancer research, robotics, and environmental sciences. These funded programs not only provide hands-on research experience but also foster personal, academic, and intercultural growth as students immerse themselves in campus life at Notre Dame. Participants in both programs gain valuable skills and insights, contributing to their future academic and professional endeavors.

International Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (iSURE)

The iSURE program offers international undergraduate and master's students the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research at the University of Notre Dame during an 8-week summer session. Participants work closely with Notre Dame faculty and graduate students, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of fields, including cancer research, robotics, and environmental sciences.

Students are paired with faculty mentors based on project applications, fostering personal, academic, and intercultural growth. In addition to their research, iSURE participants experience the American undergraduate lifestyle during their time on campus.

  • Session 1: Early June – Late July

  • a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • English proficiency scores (unless waived)

Research Apprenticeship: Pre-Doctoral Level

The Research Apprenticeship program provides funded opportunities for undergraduate and pre-doctoral graduate students from India to conduct research at the University of Notre Dame (ND) in the summer. Students will gain valuable hands-on research experience while working on current research projects with Notre Dame faculty and graduate students.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate or pre-doctoral level graduate students enrolled in any accredited institution in India
  • Must be age 18 or older at time of application
  • Must be in good academic standing (transcript will be required)
  • Fluency in English
  • Exceptional motivation, emotional maturity, and a high aptitude for adapting to a new environment
  • Strong interest in scientific research and some research experience preferred
